Fort Valley State University maintained its in-state tuition fees for the 2022-23 academic year, according to the most recent data release, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Georgia residents paid $5,832 to attend this four-year public university in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years.

Non-resident students faced tuition costs that were 184.2% higher than those for residents in 2022-23, amounting to $16,572. This represented a slight increase of 0.1% from $16,554 in the previous academic year.

Approximately 93% of the undergraduate student body at Fort Valley State University are Georgia residents, while the remaining 7% come from other states.

Financial aid was widespread among full-time undergraduates who began studies in 2022-23, with 98% receiving some form of assistance. Specifically, 504 students were awarded grants or scholarships totaling $4.8 million, and 386 students obtained loans exceeding $2.3 million.

Across the entire undergraduate population, 2,043 students benefited from grants or scholarships amounting to $18 million. Additionally, 1,656 students borrowed $10.1 million in federal student loans.

Undergraduate education costs have seen a significant increase over the past few decades. Data shows a 169% rise in the average total cost, including tuition, fees, room, and board, between 1980 and 2020.

According to a 2023 College Board report, in-state students at public universities paid an average of $11,260, while out-of-state students paid $29,150 in the 2023-24 academic year.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
