Langston Road Elementary sees 4 American Indian or Alaska Native students enrolled for 2024-25

Reports from the Georgia Department of Education indicate that Langston Road Elementary School enrolled four American Indian or Alaska Native students for the 2024-25 school year.

Total student enrollment at Langston Road Elementary reached 486 during the 2024-25 school year. American Indian or Alaska Native students represented 1% of the student population, which was the lowest of all student groups at the school.

The school is part of the Houston County School District, which is headquartered in Perry.

Of the 36 schools in the Houston County School District, Quail Run Elementary School and Northside Elementary School each enrolled five American Indian or Alaska Native students during the 2024-25 school year, the highest in the district.

The National Center for Education Statistics reports that public school enrollment in Georgia across all grades was about 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

The Georgia Department of Education states that 20.7% of students statewide missed at least 10% of school days in 2024, reflecting continued challenges with chronic absenteeism following the pandemic. In response, the department has launched a state-level effort featuring a near-real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and targeted assistance to high-need districts intended to improve attendance rates.

In 2025, state lawmakers amended Georgia’s school attendance laws, prohibiting expulsion for attendance infractions alone. The measure also imposes new reporting requirements and coordinates with alternative diploma programs aimed at supporting student graduation through different pathways.

Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio reached about 14:1 in 2026, according to reports, outperforming the national ratio average of 15:1.
