Rep. Austin Scott, a Republican congressman from Georgia, used his social media platform to comment on recent political developments, including the ongoing government shutdown and international events in the Middle East.
On October 8, 2025, Scott addressed concerns about the impact of the government shutdown on federal assistance programs. He wrote, “No matter the lies told by Democrats when Republicans passed The Working Families Tax Cut, the only way working and disabled Americans lose access to SNAP is with a Democrat-manufactured shutdown.”
The following day, Scott criticized politicians’ responses to the shutdown and questioned their priorities. In his October 9, 2025 post, he stated, “Only a politician who cares about their next primary more than anything else would claim ‘EVERY DAY GETS BETTER’ during a shutdown. What about people that will soon miss a paycheck because of this political stunt AKA the Schumer Shutdown?”
Later on October 9, Scott shifted focus to international affairs, expressing support for former President Donald Trump’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East. He posted, “I commend President Trump for his great work in securing a ceasefire in Israel and Gaza. Bringing about an end to the hostilities gives people hope for the future.”
Austin Scott has represented Georgia’s 8th congressional district since 2011. He has consistently won re-election by wide margins against Democratic challengers such as Darrius Butler in both 2022 and 2024, where he secured nearly 69% of the vote each time. Over previous election cycles, Scott maintained similar levels of support against various opponents.
