Rep. Austin Scott, U.S. Congressman from Georgia’s 8th district, posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing recent and historical events, including terrorism and ongoing budget debates in Congress.
On October 7, 2025, Scott reflected on a previous terrorist attack, writing, “2 years ago we all watched in horror as a devastating terrorist attack was committed on people of Jewish faith.”
Later that same day, he commented on remarks made by Senator Jon Ossoff regarding the federal budget process. Scott quoted Ossoff’s statement from March 13: “On March 13th of this year Jon Ossoff said ‘I will oppose the House budget proposal. The best available solution is a 30-day stopgap funding measure to avoid a shutdown, during which time Congress can do its job to properly pass a bipartisan budget.’ To be clear, a bipartisan”
On October 8, 2025, Scott criticized Georgia’s senators for their voting records. He stated, “Georgia’s senators have repeatedly voted with their party bosses in New York, and against the people of Georgia. They can support Georgians by voting to fund the government.”
Rep. Austin Scott has maintained his seat through multiple election cycles. In 2024, he won re-election against Darrius Butler with nearly 69% of the vote. Previous victories include wins over Darrius Butler in 2022 and Lindsay Holliday in 2020. His initial election to Congress was in 2010 when he defeated Jim Marshall.
