Washington, D.C.-- U.S. Representative Austin Scott (GA-08), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC), released the below statement upon the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passing the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 219-210. The NDAA sets Department of Defense (DOD) policies and authorizes funding levels for defense programs.

“The bipartisan FY24 NDAA is critical for our nation’s defense and for supporting our service personnel, military retirees, military installations, and defense industry in Georgia,” Scott said. “House passage of this legislation also furthers my effort to prevent DOD funds from purchasing and using technology produced by our adversaries.”

Throughout the lengthy process of crafting the FY24 NDAA, Scott had 46 bill and directive report language amendments included at his request in the bill and accompanying report, including the most recent amendment below:

Prohibiting the Use of DOD Funds for Purchasing Battery Technology from Communist China: This amendment expands Scott’s previous amendment to prevent DOD from purchasing battery technology produced by Contemporary Amperex Technology Company (CATL) to include other CCP-affilated companies BYD Company, Limited; Envision Energy, Limited; EVE Energy Company, Limited; Gotion High tech Company, Limited; and Hithium Energy Storage Technology Company, Limited.
