State Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R–Dallas) has proposed Senate Bill 420 to prohibit foreign adversaries from purchasing agricultural land or property within a 25-mile radius of Georgia's military installations. The bill is intended to address security concerns by limiting such acquisitions.
According to a press release by the Georgia General Assembly, Anavitarte said: "Georgia’s military installations are currently vulnerable to foreign adversaries, a crisis that could be exacerbated by a single bad actor at any moment. This Bill, its regulations and penalties aim to prevent that scenario by limiting the exposure experienced by Georgia’s agricultural land and these military installations. I am pleased to see it make progress toward becoming a law."
The same press release also mentioned that after being presented and read on the Senate floor, the bill will proceed to the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee. The bill incorporates protections related to existing property interests, residential properties, and highlights the economic significance of agricultural product testing sites in Georgia.
As reported by Longview News-Journal, approximately thirty-six other lawmakers have joined as sponsors of SB420.
In another press release by the Georgia General Assembly, it was noted that Anavitarte serves as Chair of the Senate Majority Caucus and represents Senate District 31, which includes Paulding and Polk Counties.
