Senator Larry Walker III (R–Perry) announced the successful passage of several key legislative measures in the Georgia Senate as the 2024 Legislative Session nears its conclusion.
Walker highlighted the passing of the “Back the Blue Act”, stating, "This measure offers an opportunity for Georgians to contribute to the Back the Blue Fund, when they renew their vehicle registration." The Act aims to provide Georgia Sheriffs with the ability to award merit bonuses to their deputies and jailers.
In addition to supporting the Back the Blue Act, Walker shared his enthusiasm for tax-related proposals, mentioning his support for House Bill 808, which raises the statewide ad valorem tax exemption for tangible personal property. He also expressed his backing for House Bill 1015, which accelerates the phase-in of a state income tax reduction, leaving more money in the pockets of taxpayers sooner.
The Georgia Senate also took decisive action on matters related to public safety and national security. Walker noted the passage of House Bill 301 and House Bill 1105, emphasizing their importance in upholding public safety. HB 301 allows residents to seek declaratory judgments against local governments with dangerous immigration sanctuary policies, while HB 1105 mandates local law enforcement cooperation with federal authorities in enforcing immigration laws.
Furthermore, the Senate passed legislation targeting foreign adversaries. Walker mentioned the passing of House Bill 185, which mandates Georgia’s University System to report funding received from foreign adversaries. Additionally, Senate Republicans were pleased with the passage of Senate Bill 420, which prohibits enemies of the United States from acquiring land near secure areas, including military bases.
Walker also shared his satisfaction with the progress of his legislative priorities in the House chamber, specifically highlighting the unanimous passing of SB 373, which allows marriage and family therapists from other states to receive expedited licenses to practice in Georgia, easing the shortage of mental health professionals.
As the 2024 Legislative Session approaches its final week, Senator Larry Walker III encouraged constituents to reach out to his office for any assistance with legislative matters. Walker serves as Chairman of the Insurance and Labor Committee and Secretary of the Senate Majority Caucus, representing the 20th Senate District.
