A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Pulaski County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request, made by Warner Robins Today, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information about the methods used by the department to count votes.
In addition to asking for a list of these methods, Warner Robins Today also requested an estimate of the number of people who would be working on election night if the votes were being counted manually.
The media organization emphasized its role in gathering and reporting news to the public and stated that access to public records is essential for them to fulfill their professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given their role in disseminating information, Warner Robins Today believes they are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.
The Pulaski County Election Department has yet to respond to this FOIA request.
