Of all the ethnicities represented in Houston County School District, the most prevalent among the county's students in the 2022-23 school year was African American, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Among the 29,333 students attending Houston County schools, 40% were African American. White students were the second most common ethnicity, making up 39% of Houston County student body.

In the previous school year, white students were the most common ethnicity in Houston County School District, representing 41% of the student body.

In the 2022-23 school year, the total number of students enrolled in school districts in the county increased 0.5% when compared to the previous year.

Houston County School District, the only school district in the county, has a main office in Perry.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 15:1, which is better than the national average of 16:1. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
